Abstract
This study was done for the purpose of investigating the degrees of health knowledge and self-care activities and the relationship between these variables in continuous ambulatory percutaneous trans hepatic biliary drainage(PTBD)
The subjects, 46 patients receiving the follow-up care of PTBD at emergency department, out patient department and ward admission, where selected from a General Hospital in Daegu City August 19 to September 30, 2002. The data were collected through interviews by questionnaires and were analyzed by t-test, ANOVA and Pearson¡¯s correlation.
The results of this study were summarized as follows;
1. The patient with PTBD scored average of 13.21 points in 25 point knowledgeable score. In categorial knowlege, catheter drainage management section showed highest score whereas nutritional management section score showed lowest score.
2. In the Self-care activity, subjects scored an average of 40.96 points in 100 point knowledgeable score and in 4 point average score, they averaged 1.92 points. In categorial subsection catheter drainage management showed highest score and whereas nutritional management showed lowest.
3. The knowledge based on general specificity was significantly related to religion(t=2.141, p=0.038) and catheter insertion(f=6.525, p=0.001).
4. Self-care activity based on general specificity varied from 25 to 100 with an average of 40.37 and there was no factor which showed significant correlation.5. Knowledge and activity showed positive correlation with r=.443
In conclusion, it is believed that further study that can determine the measurement of self-care activity and systemic education to improve self-care activity in PTBD patients are needed.
